ND FURNITURE is a premier manufacturer of high-quality custom furniture, seating, and wooden fixtures based in Addis Ababa. As we expand our production into premium office furniture, we are seeking a highly skilled, remote Senior Furniture Designer to translate concepts into production-ready blueprints for our Lebu workshop.
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced design professional who understands the realities of wood manufacturing and assembly. This is a fully remote, freelance role where you will be paid on a per-design basis. Your primary responsibility is not just designing aesthetically pleasing office furniture, but engineering the exact production files—specifically providing precise, optimized cutout layouts (cut-lists) to maximize our material efficiency (MDF, wood) and streamline the fabrication process.
Key Responsibilities
• Product Design: Create modern, ergonomic, and highly functional office furniture designs tailored to client specifications and market trends.
• Technical Drafting: Produce detailed 2D/3D technical drawings and assembly schematics that are clear and ready for the workshop floor.
• Cutout Layouts & Optimization: Generate highly accurate, mathematically optimized cutout layouts for every design to minimize material waste and guide the production team effectively.
• Remote Collaboration: Work seamlessly with our management and Lebu production teams via digital channels to refine designs, adjust dimensions, and clarify manufacturing details.
Requirements & Qualifications
• Experience: Proven senior-level experience in furniture design, specifically within commercial or office furniture manufacturing.
• Technical Proficiency: Expert-level mastery of CAD software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, SolidWorks, or similar) and specialized cut-list optimization/panel cutting software.
• Manufacturing Knowledge: Deep understanding of wood manufacturing processes, joinery, material behaviors, and production costing.
• Independent Execution: Strong ability to work autonomously from anywhere, manage your own time, and deliver flawless production files on strict deadlines.
• Portfolio: A robust portfolio demonstrating both aesthetic furniture designs and the accompanying technical drawings/cutout layouts used to build them.
