PCB Designer/ Power Electronics Engineer
Private Client
Job Type: Remote - Contractual
Experience: Expert
Vacancies: 1
Skills: Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design, KiCad
Job Title: PCB Designer / Power Electronics Engineer
Mandatory Experience: KiCad PCB Design & Power Electronics
Job Description
We are looking for a skilled PCB Designer / Power Electronics Engineer with hands-on experience in electronic circuit design, PCB layout, and power electronics development. The ideal candidate must be proficient in KiCad and have practical experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting electronic hardware.
The candidate should be able to take a project from schematic design and component selection through PCB layout, manufacturing preparation, assembly, and hardware validation.
Applicants must provide examples of previous projects they have personally designed or contributed to. Candidates without relevant PCB design experience and project samples will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop electronic circuits, schematics, and multilayer PCBs using KiCad.
• Design power electronics circuits, including DC-DC converters, power supplies, battery management, and power distribution systems.
• Perform component selection, circuit calculations, and component datasheet analysis.
• Develop PCB layouts with proper grounding, routing, thermal management, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI) considerations.
• Apply appropriate PCB design techniques for high-current paths, switching power circuits, and power integrity.
• Generate manufacturing-ready Gerber files, drill files, BOMs, pick-and-place files, and assembly documentation.
• Troubleshoot hardware issues and perform circuit testing, debugging, and design validation.
• Collaborate with firmware engineers, mechanical engineers, and other team members to deliver functional hardware.
• Review and improve existing PCB designs for reliability, performance, manufacturability, and cost.
Mandatory Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
• KiCad proficiency: Demonstrated practical experience using KiCad for schematic capture, PCB layout, library management, design rule checks (DRC), and manufacturing file generation.
• PCB design expertise: Strong understanding of PCB stackups, trace width calculations, copper pours, grounding, routing, via selection, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Power electronics knowledge: Practical understanding of switching regulators, DC-DC converters, power supplies, MOSFETs, gate drivers, inductors, capacitors, and power-stage design.
• Electrical engineering fundamentals: Strong knowledge of circuit analysis, analog and digital electronics, voltage/current calculations, and component selection.
• Power and thermal design: Understanding of current handling, voltage drop, power dissipation, thermal management, and safe component operating limits.
• Hardware testing and debugging: Ability to use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, electronic loads, and bench power supplies to validate designs.
• Technical documentation: Ability to prepare clear schematics, BOMs, manufacturing files, and design documentation.
• Practical project experience: Must have completed at least one real PCB design project and be able to explain the design decisions, challenges, and testing performed.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with battery management systems (BMS), lithium battery charging, and protection circuits.
• Experience designing high-current or high-power PCBs.
• Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation and signal integrity.
• Experience with microcontrollers, embedded hardware, sensors, and communication interfaces.
• Familiarity with PCB assembly, prototyping, soldering, and hardware bring-up.
• Experience working with manufacturers and reviewing PCB fabrication specifications.
Required Application Materials
Applications without previous project examples will not be considered.
Please include the following in your application:
• CV or résumé outlining your relevant engineering experience.
• Portfolio of previous PCB projects that you personally designed or contributed to.
• At least one KiCad project, preferably including the original schematic and PCB layout files.
• Screenshots or 3D renders of completed PCB designs.
• A brief explanation of each project, including its purpose, your individual contribution, key design challenges, and testing or validation results.
• Examples of power electronics projects, if available, including relevant circuit calculations, component selection, and measured performance.
Applicants may redact confidential information from previous work. Do not submit proprietary designs without authorization.
How to Apply
Submit your CV and project portfolio with the subject line:
