We are a growing technology company seeking an experienced, reliable, and detail-oriented Import and Freight Forwarding Officer to manage and coordinate the international importation of electronic equipment, IT products, and related technical materials from multiple countries.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating international shipments, working with freight forwarders and transit agents, preparing and verifying import documentation, following up on customs clearance, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of imported goods to Ethiopia.
We are particularly interested in candidates with previous experience working as a transit agent or in freight forwarding, with practical knowledge of importing electronics from different international markets. The ideal candidate should understand the complete import process, be familiar with relevant Ethiopian customs and import requirements, and be capable of independently managing shipments from dispatch to final delivery.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage and track international shipments of electronics, computers, networking equipment, telecommunications devices, and related products from multiple countries, coordinating with overseas suppliers, shipping companies, and freight forwarders.
• Obtain and compare freight quotations, arrange air and sea transportation, and coordinate with transit agents (transiters), customs brokers, and logistics providers to ensure cost-effective and timely shipment handling.
• Prepare, review, and verify import documents, including commercial invoices, packing lists, airway bills, bills of lading, and certificates of origin, and follow up on customs declarations, permits, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Monitor shipments through ports, airports, customs facilities, and bonded warehouses; coordinate customs clearance, cargo release, local transportation, and final delivery to the company's designated location.
• Monitor freight charges, customs duties, taxes, transit fees, handling costs, and storage expenses; compare estimated and actual costs and identify opportunities to reduce expenses without compromising compliance or delivery reliability.
• Maintain accurate shipment records, provide regular updates on shipment status and expected arrival dates, verify received goods against shipping documents, and resolve or report delays, discrepancies, missing items, and cargo damage.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Supply Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in international logistics, import operations, freight forwarding, customs clearance coordination, or transit services.
• Previous practical experience working as a transit agent, transit officer, freight forwarding officer, or import logistics specialist is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience handling international shipments originating from multiple countries.
• Practical experience importing electronics, IT equipment, computers, networking devices, telecommunications equipment, or related technical products.
• Good working knowledge of international shipping procedures, freight documentation, customs clearance processes, and import logistics.

• Strong coordination, communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and follow-up skills.
• High integrity, attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and resolve operational issues with minimal supervision.
